It was a beautiful sunny December day and we were so happy to be delivering trays to all of the residence at the County Nursing Home. We were able to visit each of the neighborhoods and give our cookie trays and tins to the residence and the staff. The Mountain View Home is located at the County Complex on Rte 171 in Ossipee.  It is right beside the old home. This facility was completed and opened this past summer.  It has a new model for caring for our seniors.  Each wing is set up as a neighborhood.  Residence have their own room and all were personalized with blankets, family pictures and personal treasures.  The neighborhoods have up to 12 residence.  They have a common area for dining and socializing as well as a small kitchen.  The nurses station is located between the neighborhoods on each wing.  The neighborhoods are all named after Mountains in our State.

After our delivery and tour, we stopped in the Lobby and left some cookies for the reception staff and the volunteers.  There is a wonderful common area near the lobby which appears to be a great place for any large gathering.  There is also a Friends of Mountain View Nursing home group whose purpose is to support the residence with activities and outings not covered in the annual budget.

You can also find the Friends on Facebook.

Members left feeling that this facility was exceptional and that we would enjoy learning about other ways that our organization can support the home and it's residence.

December 2011 - Christmas Party and Mtn View Cookies

On December 12th, Lorraine hosted our Carroll County Altrusa Christmas party.  Members brought an appetizer, main dish, salad or dessert.  As you can imagine, there was a wonderful variety of food and no one left hungry.

After our wonderful meal and social time, we settled in for the "Yankee Swap".  Now if you have not participated in a Yankkee Swap before you have missed a great time.  Each person draws a number, #1 goes first (and last).  #1 picks a package, upwraps it, shows it to everyone and then sits down.  #2 picks a package, opens it and then decides if she wants her present of #1's.  The evening goes on with lots of comments, and many people trying to hide their gift so it doesn't get taken, then it returns to #1 who can pick from all the gifts available.

Pat is sooooo excited!

Other Pat, Hugs her gift.
This year we suggested that all gifts be either handmade, homemade or purchased from the local area.  The gifts were very creative, homemade apple pie, sally purses, table arrangements, ornaments, local beer, maple syrup, painted lamps, homestitched potholders and many, many more treasures.

It was a wonderful evening.  Altrusa provides service to the community, but also uplifts and supports it's own members.  Merry Christmas to all.  (Cathy Baybutt )
