December 2011 - Christmas Party and Mtn View Cookies

On December 12th, Lorraine hosted our Carroll County Altrusa Christmas party.  Members brought an appetizer, main dish, salad or dessert.  As you can imagine, there was a wonderful variety of food and no one left hungry.

After our wonderful meal and social time, we settled in for the "Yankee Swap".  Now if you have not participated in a Yankkee Swap before you have missed a great time.  Each person draws a number, #1 goes first (and last).  #1 picks a package, upwraps it, shows it to everyone and then sits down.  #2 picks a package, opens it and then decides if she wants her present of #1's.  The evening goes on with lots of comments, and many people trying to hide their gift so it doesn't get taken, then it returns to #1 who can pick from all the gifts available.

Pat is sooooo excited!

Other Pat, Hugs her gift.
This year we suggested that all gifts be either handmade, homemade or purchased from the local area.  The gifts were very creative, homemade apple pie, sally purses, table arrangements, ornaments, local beer, maple syrup, painted lamps, homestitched potholders and many, many more treasures.

It was a wonderful evening.  Altrusa provides service to the community, but also uplifts and supports it's own members.  Merry Christmas to all.  (Cathy Baybutt )
