Make a Difference Day Service Project

   

 This year, our October 24th Make A Difference Day service project was to assist the Laura Foundation with their fundraising project, Halloween Town.  Halloween Town is located near King Pine Ski Area at Camp Tohkumeupog for Boys in East Madison.  Halloween Town provided a fun Trick or Treat Trail for children and families as children could walk from one camp cabin (each specially decorated) to another. WMUR even had a story about the event.  A large tent providing games and rides was also available to children.  A team of us from Altrusa staffed the drink booth and we busily poured coffee, hot cocoa and hot cider for families.  Of course, we dressed in costume and enjoyed seeing the variety of costumes on the children and adults, especially the little ones... so cute!  All money earned at Halloween Town went to the Laura Foundation which seeks to provide funding to develop and support therapeutic recreation and educational programs that enrich the lives of individuals with autism and/or seizure disorders.

Our newest members, Linda Armstrong and Nina Monaco, came to enjoy the pizza.

On Thursday, Oct. 22nd about a dozen of our members, along with friends and family, gathered at Flatbread Company in North Conway to enjoy their delicious pizza.  Flatbreads will share 10% of all pizzas sold with Altrusa of Carroll County to support our literacy programs.  What a delicious way to raise money!  In addition, Barb Kennett displayed her beautiful jewelry for sale, also donating a percentage of sales to Altrusa.  We have hidden talents among our members!

Making Strides: Walking to help the Fight

     It was a chilly morning on October 18th, but our members were up early ready to join the Making Strides Walk to End Breast Cancer.  Some Atrusans stopped in at the Masonic Lodge to enjoy a delicious breakfast with all funds going to our local Jen's Friends, which provides support for local families fighting cancer.  Then our group gathered at Whitaker Woods where some sisters worked the registration tent, helped with directions, passed out t-shirts and joined the group walking the 5K route.  This year's event raised almost $64,000 for research to fight breast cancer.  Way to go Ladies!!
